Following on from a successful 2012 programme of events, NetComposites are starting off 2013 with a workshop on the Durability of Fibre Reinforced Polymer Composites on 26th February.

Fibre reinforced polymer composites (FRPs) have been used successfully for many years in a wide range of applications in which they are exposed to aggressive environments. It has been demonstrated that, with the correct materials selection, design and manufacture, FRP composites can have a design life of 40 years or more.

There are aspects of durability of composites that are still not fully quantified or understood and this workshop aims to share the experiences of a cross sector of companies.

The programme for the event includes:

  • Effect of Environmental Conditions on the Material Properties of FRP Structures
    Mark Hobbs, Gurit UK
  • Fatigue Life of Immersed Glass Reinforced Polymer Composites
Ciaran Kennedy, National University of Ireland, Galway
  • Moisture Uptake and its Effects on the Flexural Properties and Failure Modes of Glass/Linseed Oil Composites
    Mari Malmstein, University of Southampton
  • Durable Data for Durable Composites
    Norman Swindells, Ferroday
  • Structural Health Analysis of Ageing Composite Wind Turbines Blades using an Integrated Thermographic Monitoring System
    SP SantoSpirito, KCC
  • Providing Confidence in Durable Composites (DURACOMP) – a new EPSRC Funded Research Project
    Peter Gosling, Newcastle University

The event will take place in Chesterfield, UK. Further details can be found at www.netcomposites.com/workshops.

NetComposites’ upcoming events include Quality in Manufacturing FRP Materials, Opportunities for FRP’s in the Automotive Sector, Design for the End of Life of FRP’s and Non Destructive Testing and Repair of FRPs’. To be kept informed of these please email events@netcomposites.com.
